a maker

Jasmine 趙明 (she/her) is an interdisciplinary maker bringing with her extensive experiences in contemporary dance and movement. Born in Hong Kong and bred in Canada, Jasmine makes socially engaged work which often stems from autobiographical stories. Her current solo work AT BROKEN BRIDGE is a tale of migration, mental health, and East Asian mythology through the use of evocative text, movement, puppetry, and live sound. She devises collaboratively and is curious about the various ways in which an audience can encounter her work whilst activating visceral sensations.

Jasmine has been supported with funding by Arts Council England National Lottery, commissioned and presented by Pegasus Theatre in conjunction with Dancin' Oxford, Camden People’s Theatre, Hong Kong International Choreography Festival, and is a selected Choreodrome Artist 2021 at The Place.

She is also a facilitator of community experiences having worked with Rethink Mental Illness, Mind Mental Health Charity, and Hackney Chinese Community Centre – engaging participants in therapeutic and creative movement. She has completed an introductory teaching course with Dance for PD® with Mark Morris Dance Group Brooklyn and is a CELTA certified teacher of English to speakers of other languages.

Jasmine is a keen advocate of better mental health practices in the industry and is a certified Mental Health First Aider of MHFA England.
